When developing applications for the iOS, you need to get a certificate first before you can publish it into the Apple app store. Think of this certificate as if it is your driver’s license.
You see, a provisioning certificate is your ticket to getting your application approved by the mobile application company so that it will finally be published on their store. Failure to comply with their requirements means that you will not get this ticket.
Now, just like a driver’s license, there is an expiration date for such certificates as well. If you’re looking for steps on how to renew your certificate, then you’ve come to the right article. Today, I am going to share some easy tips that you can follow to renew it.
- Go to Keychain Access
The first step is to go to “Keychain Access”. To go to this menu, you have to go to Mac’s Applications folder and then finally to the Utilities folder. From here, you will find the Keychain Access.
Once you’re there, you will be presented with a lot of certificates. You just have to find the right one that will tell you if your certification to the App store has expired. To do that, find the files called the “iPhone Developer: [Your Name]” and “iPhone Distribution: [Your Name].”
- See if it has Expired
Click on the iPhone Distribution certificate to see if it has expired. You will know if it has by looking at the red circle with an X distinction in the middle of the page. If it has already expired, then it is time to have it renewed.
Do not worry, the process of renewal is quite easy and it will not require a lot of your time. Refer to the next step to know what to do.
- Time for Renewal
If you see that your certificate has already expired, go back to the Keychain Access Folder, and then to the Certificate Assistant, and then select “Request a Certificate from a Certificate Authority.”
A file will be generated after you’ve done so. Do note that you have to delete the old iPhone Distribution certificate for this to work. Otherwise, you will see an error message prompting you to do so.
- Fill in Your Details
After you’ve gotten the new certificate, you will then be asked to fill it in with your details. Make sure to be truthful and fill it up with the right details so that you will not have any trouble in the future.
Now, after you’ve filled it out, go back to the certificates section just a little back of the renewal page. Upload the new certificate file and then refresh the page once it is done. It should now reflect the new certificate with the new expiration date!
Having the right certificates is necessary before you can publish your well-developed applications into the Apple app store. Although it is a bit of a hassle, you, the developer, must comply with what Apple requires of you.
